The Assam government has imposed a blanket ban on all forms of radical and jihadi literature linked to proscribed extremist organisations, invoking Section 98 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The Political (A) Department issued the notification on December 3, prohibiting the publication, circulation, sale, storage and digital transmission of any material associated with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Ansar-Al-Islam/pro-AQIS and other similar banned outfits.
According to the government, intelligence inputs, cyber-patrolling findings and ongoing investigations by Assam Police and the Special Task Force (STF) indicate continued circulation and possession of radical publications in both print and digital formats.
