LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln teen found guilty of fatally shooting his brother last Christmas Eve was sentenced in Lancaster County District Court on Wednesday.
Kentrail McDaniel Jr., 17, was given five years of probation by Judge Susan Strong, a drastic difference from the maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.
On Dec. 24, 2024, the teen shot and killed his brother, 20-year-old Johnathan McCray , outside the Bridgeport Apartments near 14th Street and Hilltop Road.
At the time, a 16-year-old McDaniel told police he had been attacked a few days earlier and feared for his safety, which is why his brother had given him a gun to protect himself.
