New barrier-free highway toll collection system to be in place within a year: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the traditional toll booth system will be phased out within a year and replaced by a fully electronic, barrier-free tolling network. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he said the new system — already operational at 10 locations — will enable motorists to drive through highways without stopping, using technologies like FASTag, automatic number plate recognition and AI-based analytics.
