Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed his maiden ODI century as the Indian batter touched the three-figure mark in merely 77 deliveries against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday.

Laden with 12 fours and two maximums, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper made light work of the Protea bowling unit as he shared a fruitful 195-run partnership with Virat Kohli in the middle.

Gaikwad was the Player of the Series when they played for India A against their South African counterparts prior to this contest.

Though he is a specialist opener, Gaikwad has struggled to find a place in the side at that spot, in the presence of players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and even Yashasvi Jaiswal.
