Everything you need to know about the cost of the Covid inquiry for the Government as figures soar

The Covid inquiry has cost the Government more than £100million to respond to so far, official figures show.

Cabinet Office data shows costs include paying for legal advice and staff preparing evidence.

Some 248 full-time equivalent staff were working on Government responses at the last count.

In 2024/25 staff and lawyers cost £46.6m.

The bills are on top of £192m cost of the inquiry itself - which is expected to be the most expensive ever.
