The government has made it mandatory for all pan masala manufacturers to display the Retail Sale Price (RSP) on every pack sold in the country, bringing all pack sizes under uniform declaration norms. The Department of Consumer Affairs said the move, enabled through new amendments to the Legal Metrology rules, aims to improve pricing transparency for consumers and prevent discrepancies in the market.

The revised rules, which come into effect from February 1, 2026, are also expected to support GST compliance by ensuring clearer tracking of pack-wise pricing. The department said the mandate will apply across the industry.
