The mission of the Erie Bureau of Police, Chief Dan Spizarny says, is to solve crimes and keep the community a safe and welcoming place.

Spizarny has spent nearly 36 years serving that mission, starting as a one of the first patrol officers sworn into service by former Mayor Joyce Savocchio in March 1990 and leading to his ascension in January 2018 as chief of the department.
