One of the stars of Outlander looks completely unrecognisable in a trailer for their upcoming movie California Schemin’ after viewers got a first-look ahead of its cinema release. Séamus McLean Ross , who is better known as Colum MacKenzie in the Starz prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, swaps tartan and machiavellian machinations for beanies and scheming of a very different kind in the new film. ‌

California Schemin’ tells the stranger-than-fiction story of real-life Scottish hip-hop duo Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, or Silibil N' Brains, who pretended to be American to land a record deal . The film charts their success at hoodwinking record execs in the hopes of hitting the big time. ‌

McLean Ross stars as rapper Bain, while Samuel Bottomley takes on the part of Boyd.
