EAST LANSING — Pat Fitzgerald has something to prove at Michigan State. Maybe even his innocence, to some detractors worried about his past. Fitzgerald spent 17 seasons at Northwestern before he was suspended and then fired in July 2023 for a sexually-abusive hazing scandal that occurred within his program. Even though investigations by the university found no evidence that he knew about the hazing, NU president Michael Schill fired him because he decided Fitzgerald should have known about it.
Three seasons later, Fitzgerald is back in the college ranks. In August, he settled a $130 wrongful termination suit with Northwestern for an undisclosed amount. And Monday, he signed a minimum five-year, $30 million deal to be Michigan State’s football
