It's been a chilly start to the day here in the Rockford area and across Northeast Illinois, and we'll be feeling the bite of Arctic high pressure for a bit longer. We've already seen temperatures dipping into uncomfortable territory, and we expect them to stay very low through tonight. For those venturing out early, wind chills could be quite frigid, making it feel much colder than the thermometer indicates.

Following this brief but intense cold snap, we'll start to see temperatures moderate slightly. A series of "clipper" systems are likely to bring chances for periodic light snow to our region starting this weekend.
