Bhubaneswar : The Panchayati Raj Department has asked all Collectors to shift identified Branch Post Offices to Panchayat buildings on a rent-free basis, citing improved accessibility of postal services for villagers.
In a letter to Collectors, the department referenced a 2005 letter from the Chief Postmaster General, suggesting alternative government premises like Anganwadi centres, schools, and health centres as suitable locations.
Despite the directive, only 71 out of 573 Branch Post Offices have been relocated as of November 17, 2025. The department has urged Collectors to expedite the process, coordinating with Postal Divisions and relevant departments, to shift the remaining offices by December 20, 2025.
An Action Taken Report is required by the department and the Chief Postmaste
