Several national chains are rolling out special offers for one of the sweetest food holidays of the year.

National Cookie Day 2025 falls on Thursday, Dec. 4. The holiday first appeared on a 1976 Sesame Street calendar on Nov. 26, before the Blue Chip Cookie Company in San Francisco celebrated it on Friday, Dec. 4, 1987, according to National Day Calendar.

The first cookie-like treats are believed to have originated in seventh-century Persia, where bakers used small batter samples to test oven temperatures before baking full cakes. The Muslim conquest of Spain and the Crusades helped bring cookies from the Middle East to Europe over the centuries, appearing in cookbooks by the Renaissance.

European colonists later brought traditional cookie recipes to America. By the 1930s, modern favorites like the first chocolate chip cookie became widely popular in the US.

Here's how some national chains are celebrating National Cookie Day:

Corner Bakery Cafe

The bakery chain will offer freshly baked cookies for $1 at participating locations.
