A driver crashed into a house in Wallsend before making off from the scene on Wednesday morning. The crash - which involved just a single vehicle - caused structural damage to the property and it had been feared it may have caused a gas leak.
This was not the case - though the crash did cause damage to the area around the gas meter of the property - which is in Rosehill Road in the Battle Hill area. The incident took place just before 10am.
Northumbria Police confirmed that the vehicle's driver was believed to have left on foot. Officers said enquiries were ongoing to trace those involved. The police also appealed for members of the public to come forward with any information they may have.
