WASHINGTON — One GameStop customer walked away from a trade-in with more than $30,000 this week after selling the store an incredibly rare Pokemon card.
In a statement posted to X, GameStop confirmed the historic trade-in, which they said was the largest single-card purchase from a customer in the company's history.
According to the company, on Dec. 1, a customer in Grapevine, Texas walked into a store with a PSA 10 Holographic Gengar card, worth approximately $33,883.
GameStop said the store completed inspections of the card and verified it was real, before issuing a payment of $30,494.70 to the customer through the Power Packs Buyback Program.
The company then poked fun at the frequent complaint that trade-in values at GameStop stores aren't worth selling to them.
