Development plans for a 64-unit tiny home community in Kincardine are moving to the next phase.

During a special meeting held Dec. 3, council voted in favour of rezoning a parcel of land, located at the corner of Kincardine Avenue and Adelaide Street, from R1 to R6 to allow for 16 one-storey single detached homes and six two-storey structures housing eight units in each. Named Small Meadows Community, this is the first property to be zoned R6 in the municipality.

According to property co-owner Doug Edwards, the units are intended as a cheaper alternative to traditional home ownership.

“Many older residents want to remain in Kincardine, but cannot find accessible, low maintenance, reasonably priced homes,” Edwards said.
