After expanding to become a land trust this fall, a local conservation charity has secured its first property located in the southeast corner of Grey County that it is calling a “true gem.”

The Escarpment Corridor Alliance, which launched in 2022, announced on Nov. 26 that its first protected area is to be a 24-acre (10-hectare) property temporarily being called Metcalfe North.

ECA Executive Director Jarvis Strong said Thursday that the transaction marks a tremendous milestone for the organization, whose original focus was on conservation advocacy, education and research, but decided last year to shift into action.
