Emergency services have descended on a North Tyneside street after a car crashed into railings near a school. Police officers, ambulance crews and firefighters are currently on scene at Hillheads Road in Whitley Bay following the collision on Thursday afternoon.

Pictures from the scene show a car on two wheels, jammed up against railings, as firefighters assess the damage. The crash happened near to Marden Bridge Middle School.

The road remains closed in both directions.
