RICHARDSON, Texas — Amazon packages can now be delivered via drone in Richardson, the company announced.

The new service means that Amazon customers can receive tens of thousands of items in as little as one hour, Amazon said in a press release.

The drone deliveries will operate out of Amazon's fulfillment center in Richardson, the release states. The drones can deliver packages up to five pounds within a seven- to eight-mile radius of Amazon's facility located at 3051 Research Dr. in Richardson.

Prime members can choose drone delivery for $4.99, the company said.
