ST. CLOUD — Community leaders from St. Cloud, Stearns County and others came together Wednesday, Dec. 3, for an event in solidarity with the local Somali community, which is on edge following ICE raids in the Twin Cities area and the specter of similar activity in Central Minnesota.
The event at the Great River Regional Library, called UnitedAsOne, drew more than 125 attendees, including state Sen. Aric Putnam, Stearns County commissioner Bob Johnson, St. Cloud City Council member Hudda Ibrahim and Mayor Jake Anderson, all of whom addressed the crowd.
The event was organized in response to comments this week from President Donald Trump, as well as reports of federal authorities targeting immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota that would focus on Somali immigrants living unlawf
