Three people were killed after a car rolled over and struck a column in the western suburbs overnight, leaving a busy interstate closed for hours as officials worked to investigate.
The fatal rollover crash occurred about 11:40 p.m. on I-290 westbound at I-355 southbound in Itasca in DuPage County, Illinois State Police said.
According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling westbound on I-290 when it lost control and struck a bridge support column.
All three people inside the car were confirmed dead on the scene, ISP said. No further details about those inside the car were provided.
Video and photo from the scene showed parts of a mangled and destroyed car near the column under a bridge, surrounded by emergency personnel.
The crash left all westbound lanes on I-290 shut down until
