GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - Gatlinburg will be the next Tennessee city to get a Safe Haven Baby Box.
Safe Haven announced Thursday that the Gatlinburg Fire Department will host a blessing for the baby box at its department at 309 Reagan Dr. The blessing is slated for Wednesday at 1 p.m. and will feature speakers Jessi Getrost from Safe Haven, Fire Chief Charlie Cole and City Manager Greg Patterson.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes are installed on the outside of emergency responder buildings, like fire departments. They offer parents in crisis the option to surrender their child in a climate-controlled setting, which alerts the on-staff responders to collect the child.
