: Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Sanjay Goyal on Thursday clarified that the frequent power cuts in the state are due to shutdowns for maintenance and upgradation work, and not load shedding.

Speaking to the media, Goyal stated, “Shutdown needs to be taken, we are taking a lot of work under RDSS and other schemes to upgrade the lines. They can’t be done on live lines; notices are given in newspapers every day.”

Goyal explained that the shutdowns are necessary to repair and strengthen the power infrastructure, adding, “It’s the only season when we can do the work. It will continue in various localities on various dates.”
