MUSKEGON, MI - Employees of a subcontractor at a major development in Muskegon are on strike.

Eight plumbers for Moore Mechanical’s Grand Rapids branch are on strike in front of the Shaw Walker development at 920 Washington Avenue on Muskegon Lake.

The workers, represented by Local Union 174, are demanding a formal contract after Moore Mechanical started revoking benefits like paid drive time and bonuses, according to plumber Nate Witherill.

“We’re doing this for everybody at Moore Mechanical,” Witherill said. “That’s what it’s about. From the start, we’ve just wanted to try and make it a better place to work because the fantastic crew that is in the plumbing department deserves all these incentives that you get being represented by the union.
