EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - A man from East Hartford who was convicted of sexual assault when he was a teenager has died, officials said.
The state Department of Correction said 27-year-old Jaishon Bellamy was found with a bed sheet around his neck in his prison cell around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Bellamy was serving a 20-year prison sentence at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution for first-degree sexual assault, the DOC said. He had been incarcerated since 2015.
A correctional officer noticed that Bellamy had obstructed his cell window during a regular tour, the DOC said. The officer asked him to remove it. When no response was given, the cell was entered and Bellamy was found with the sheet around his neck.
He was the only person in the cell at the time.
He was transported
