A United Airlines flight from London to San Francisco has been forced to divert to Edinburgh Airport after the pilot declared an onboard emergency.
The flight landed in the Scottish capital at around 4.40pm on Thursday December 4 after a 7700 squawk was issued - signalling a general emergency onboard the aircraft.
Taking off from London at 2.05pm, the flight travelled north and was set to cross the North Atlantic Ocean before it turned back and headed towards Edinburgh.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the plane was met with emergency services as it touched down in the capital.
According to FlightRadar24, the plane was due to land in San Francisco at 5pm on Friday December 5 however it is not known when the flight is scheduled to land in America following the diversion.
