EXETER – The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is voicing its opposition against the province’s proposal to merge the local conservation authority into a much larger group.

The province has proposed merging the existing 36 conservation authorities in Ontario to seven. Under the proposal, the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority would move into the Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority, which would include 80 municipalities, merging seven conservation authorities as far away as Thunder Bay. Also included are the Maitland Valley, Saugeen Valley, Grey Sauble, Nottawasaga Valley and Lake Simcoe conservation authorities.
