CHARLESTON, W.Va. — President Donald Trump ordered U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide to honor Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, the 20-year-old West Virginia Army National Guard soldier killed in a terrorist attack near the White House.
The order applies to all federal buildings, military installations, naval vessels, and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad until sunset on Thursday.
Beckstrom’s death occurred last week during an operation in Washington, D.C., in support of an executive order directing National Guard troops to enhance safety in the nation’s capital. Her fellow Guardsman, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, of Martinsburg and Inwood, was critically injured in the same attack.
