AVONDALE, Ariz. — A teen accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Rhiana Kemplin, in an Avondale apartment in early November , has been formally indicted by a grand jury, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
On Nov. 8, Emilio Rivera allegedly shot 17-year-old Kemplin while she was sleeping in her apartment.
Rivera, 18, then allegedly went into her mother's bedroom and tried to shoot her, but the gun jammed, MCAO said.
Before the shooting, Rivera allegedly slashed the tires on several cars outside of Kemplin's apartment complex, including her car.
MCAO said a grand jury has indicted Rivera for first-degree murder, attempt to commit second-degree murder and criminal damage.
