NEWPORT – A small group of people gathered on the steps of City Hall on Dec. 3, clutching electric candles in mittened hands. It wasn’t a protest, but a vigil, a community demonstration in recognition of a harassment and assault case that took place at Rogers High School, little more than a week prior.
“I think when a traumatic thing happens, people react in a variety of ways across the community,” Newport resident Penelope Hunt said. “This is just one way of responding and reacting, and holding space for people’s trauma in light of something really terrible that happened.”
On Nov. 21, videos surfaced of students in a Rogers High School locker room assaulting a student with special needs. Since then, four students have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Newport School C
