CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. and state flags be lowered across the nation at half-staff in honor of SPC Sarah Beckstrom Thursday.

Beckstrom was shot and killed on November 26 in Washington, D.C. while serving for the West Virginia National Guard.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey released the following statement:

“Today, President Trump ordered that flags across the nation be flown at half-staff in recognition of SPC Sarah Beckstrom. I want to thank him for this heartfelt gesture. It means a great deal to Sarah’s family, to the West Virginia National Guard community, and to so many across our state who are grieving her loss.
