DES MOINES, Iowa —

Part of a busy Des Moines road was closed Thursday morning due to a vehicle fire.

Des Moines police say Southeast 14th Street had to be closed at around 11 a.m. Thursday in both directions between Watrous Avenue and McKinley Avenue. Fire crews were called to the scene to handle a vehicle fire.

Police were directing drivers to use Southwest Ninth Street and Fleur Drive while the closure continues. The closure was expected to last 30-45 minutes.
