With Christmas right around the corner, Michigan residents may want to attach Christmas lights onto their vehicle, but Michigan law makes it illegal and doing so could result in a fine.
Michigan's Vehicle Code says it's illegal to drive a vehicle with lights of any color attached. The law is intended to prevent distractions, and confusion with emergency vehicles, like police cars or ambulances, that have flashing red, green or white lights. Most U.S. states enforce a similar vehicle code, including Wisconsin , though there are variations nationwide.
Despite the ban, Michigan residents may decorate their vehicles in other ways, including attaching a wreath or reindeer antlers.
