A domestic violence suspect accidentally caught his clothing on fire after an overnight armed standoff in Calera.
The 47-year-old suspect, who was not injured, is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail pending formal charges.
The ordeal began about 1 a.m. Thursday when Calera police were dispatched to a domestic assault call.
Police Chief David Hyche said the victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The suspect was no longer at the home.
About 4:30 a.m., officers found the suspect in a shed. He was armed and refused to comply with officers’ commands to exit.
Police surrounded the shed to contain him and began negotiations.
