The inmate accused of attacking a female correctional officer at Osborn Correctional Institute on Monday has died by apparent suicide, according to the Department of Correction.

Jaishon Bellamy, 27, of East Hartford, was transferred to MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield after the assault.

Thursday morning, a correctional officer on a routine tour of the facility around 2:30 a.m. found Bellamy's cell window obstructed.

The officer told Bellamy to remove the obstruction and didn't get a response, so correctional staff went into the cell and found the him with a bedsheet tied around his neck, according to the Department of Correction. The other end of the sheet was tied to the bed frame, they sai
