HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University President Nido Qubein has given Christmas bonuses to more than 2,500 faculty and staff members, continuing the university’s five-year, $32 million bonus plan, the university announced.
The latest payment gives full-time employees $1,924, the winter portion of a twice-a-year bonus. Qubein launched the plan last year as many colleges across the country were cutting jobs and programs due to budget pressure. HPU, meanwhile, is growing. This fall the university enrolled a record 6,550 students, including its largest freshman class ever.
Qubein thanked employees during a Nov. 24 holiday staff meeting and said the bonus is meant to recognize their dedication to students.
The $1,924 amount is a reference to 1924, the year HPU was founded. Full-time empl
