INDIANAPOLIS — A new survey finds almost all Indiana school districts expect this year's property tax reform to hurt their schools moving forward.
The survey was done by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education , and was first reported on Thursday, Dec. 4 by our partners at the Indiana Capital Chronicle.
The survey paints a picture of desperate schools facing growing budget shortfalls, with smaller and more rural districts facing existential threats from falling budgets.
In Indiana, schools get almost all of their funding from local property taxes that are routed through the state. If you pay property taxes, most of the money you pay goes to your local schools.
The survey asked superintendents to identify the biggest threat to their districts, and almost all mentioned either property
