HURON – The proposed amalgamation of Ontario’s conservation authorities could have impacts on Huron County’s conservation and environmental programs.

According to Huron County’s planning and development director, Sandra Weber, who spoke to councillors during their Dec. 3 meeting, the provincial government’s proposal to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional authorities could impact conservation programs negatively.

“We do have a number of programs and services that are very local and unique to Huron County that we work on with the conservation authorities,” she said. “There’s a concern that. being lumped into a larger region, it may affect our ability to deliver these programs and services.”
