VDOT crews gear up as winter weather moves into Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- With snow in the forecast, Virginia Department of Transportation crews are preparing for winter weather expected Friday, starting with pre-treatment of major roads.

VDOT says crews are applying brine to interstates and primary routes to help prevent snow and ice from sticking to pavement. Beginning at midnight, all crews will shift into 24/7 operations as the storm moves in.
