NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans City Council meeting was briefly halted Thursday after a protest broke out in council chambers.
The protest was over the ongoing immigration crackdown called "Catahoula Crunch," targeting immigrants in the country illegally. Advertisement
The operation began Wednesday with a heavy federal presence in Kenner and Jefferson Parish.
The meeting went into recess and protesters were removed from the council chambers by the New Orleans Police Department. It is unclear if any protesters were taken into custody.
The meeting has since resumed.
