The Castro Merchants Association wants shoppers and revelers alike to know that the city’s LGBTQ neighborhood is their home away from home for the holidays. Members noted that the recent holiday tree lighting was just the beginning.

Also discussed during the meeting, the last until February, was the recent Castro Street Fair, street conditions in the Castro, and the Board of Supervisors’ passage of the recent upzoning legislation.

The all-important holiday shopping season, though, was front and center among merchants.

“We had a great Christmas tree lighting event, a good presence by the police department, who will have a similar presence for the menorah lighting, making sure everyone is safe and has a good time,” said District 8 public safety liaison Dave Burke, a straight ally.
