PORTLAND, Ore. — King tides season is going on along the Oregon Coast, a phenomenon which draws visitors and photographers to the beach throughout fall and winter each year. People have the chance to catch the high tides this week from Thursday through Sunday.
The dates below are when people can expect to see the king tides for the remainder of the season, according to the Oregon King Tides Project :
Whenever the king tides occur, there's an increased risk for sneaker waves. Officials remind anyone planning to go to the coast that they should never turn their back to the ocean, stay off jetties or logs and rocks, and stay back farther back from the ocean than seems necessary.
