NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - An East Nashville woman nearly fell victim to a phone scam where callers claimed she missed jury duty and owed fines, highlighting a fraud that continues to target residents.
Vivian Gornik said she received urgent voicemails saying she missed an appointment. With a busy schedule, she agreed it was possible she had forgotten something.
When Gornik called back, she heard recordings that made it seem like she was talking to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department. A live person then told her she missed her jury summons and faced charges and fines.
She says one of the people she spoke with said their name was Wayne Sellers, who is a TN Highway Patrol captain.
