More accessible childcare and an end to families being stuck in bed and breakfasts beyond the legal limit are among the promises in a new child poverty strategy that could help thousands in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The plan comes amid a record high of 4.45 million children living in poverty in the UK.

Most recent data reveals that Birmingham has one of the highest levels nationally of children living in B&B accommodation in the city, with around 800 families with dependent children housed in B&B accommodation as of the end of June.

For some this was for months at a time because of a shortage of other temporary options and a desperate need for more family homes for rent.
