A man who terrified an Upstate New York neighborhood while donning a clown mask and wielding a chainsaw has been convicted on menacing and weapons charges.

Craig Wolcott, 35, was found guilty by an Albany County jury Thursday, Dec. 4, following two hours of deliberation.

The charges stem from an incident on Lancaster Street in Cohoes on Thursday, May 1, where residents reported seeing Wolcott walking through the neighborhood in a clown mask while lifting a running chainsaw, as Daily Voice previously reported.

A resident confronted him after spotting him looking into parked vehicles, Cohoes Police said. Wolcott then approached the man before being tackled to the ground.

Responding officers separated the two and discovered Wolcott also had metal knuckles in his possession, according to police. No injuries were reported.

Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin said the episode left neighbors shaken, and officers described the scene as “disturbing” given the potential danger.

Following Thursday’s conviction, Wolcott was remanded to the Albany County jail without bail. He faces between two and seven years in prison when he’s sentenced in February 2026.
