Four people were rescued and two suffered life-threatening injuries after a fast-moving fire ripped through two Albany homes.
The blaze was reported around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the city’s Pine Hills neighborhood, on Western Avenue near Quail Street, according to Albany Fire officials.
Callers told 911 dispatchers people were trapped inside. By the time crews arrived, flames had already spread to the neighboring home.
Firefighters were met with a “wall of fire up the front of the building,” forcing an immediate rescue operation, Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory said at a press conference.
One resident made it out on their own. A second person was helped down a ladder, while two others were found inside by firefighters.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said at least two people suffered “very serious injuries.” A dog was also rescued from the scene. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
