BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. —

A search for an inmate is underway after the sheriff says he was mistakenly released from the detention center in Buncombe County, North Carolina.

On Thursday, the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a detainee from the Buncombe County Detention Facility who was mistakenly released on Sunday, Nov. 30.

Corey Howell was being held on the following charges:

Crime of domestic violence

Larceny

Assault on a woman

Howell was issued a release order on a written promise to appear on some of his charges, but a hold was issued for him by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

An active and ongoing search is underway to re-apprehend Howell. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call 911.
