Citing low ridership, Calgary Transit is planning to phase out its eight remaining express bus routes by 2027, to prioritize increasing service levels on neighbourhood and priority routes.
But the decision to cut the underperforming bus lines hasn’t been welcomed by some transit users, who have a launched a petition urging the city to maintain at least one of the routes from Valley Ridge to downtown.
Calgary Transit’s express bus routes cater to passengers who commute downtown but live in outlying suburban neighbourhoods. Riders board in a concentrated area and are then whisked to the city centre with few or no stops in between.
The express routes Calgary Transit will discontinue starting later this month and throughout 2026 include routes 62, 64, 70, 109, 117, 131, 142 and 151.
