TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The city of Tempe is considering an ordinance that would require local bars and clubs to take new measures to protect customers from drink spiking.

The ordinance would do two main things: make drink-spiking test kits and drink covers such as Nightcaps available at bars and clubs, and require signage so people know about the tools. Businesses could sell them or give them away free. If passed, it would be the first such ordinance in Arizona.

“As a woman, I’ve always been told to take care of your drink,” said Marlee Valenzuela, a Planned Parenthood student at Arizona State University.
