NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Council is expected to vote Thursday night on a resolution to help with the backlog of sexual assault kits.
The resolution asks for an application for a DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Program Grant. The Metro Nashville Police Department would apply for the $250,000 grant through the U. S. Department of Justice.
The Metro Council resolution says the money would help outsource sexual assault kits to private vendors for forensic sample analysis to reduce the backlog.
Council members are expected to vote on the resolution during Thursday night’s meeting.
