State police say they have made an arrest in a case where a driver tried to outrun a trooper at more than 100 miles per hour on Route 83 in Vernon nearly six months ago.

Erick Resto, 22, of East Hartford, was identified after an on-duty trooper saw a white Infiniti Q50 with "blacked out" window tint on Talcottville Road near Regan Road, according to a warrant. The car changed direction after the driver saw the cruiser.

But as the trooper turned to follow, the Infitiniti sped off.

The warrant says the Infiniti passed cars and crossed the center line as the ddriver tried to get away. Speeds topped 100 mph before the trooper lost sight near Vernon Circle.

A Vernon Police Department plate reader later caught the Infiniti entering the I-84 westbound ramp near Kelly Road. The plate reader linked the car to Resto.

Resto surrendered Monday, Dec. 1, to state police.

He is charged with failure to display plates, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, failure to keep right, illegal tint, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $10,000 bond, police said.
